Membership

Collective bargaining at UWF and the success of UFF-UWF rest upon 2 imperatives: The size (membership numbers) and strength (active participation) of our chapter. UFF-UWF is an organization established by and for UWF faculty, and it works, because its members are committed to and actively participate in achieving its mission and goals.

Despite the overwhelming confidence in UFF expressed by UWF's faculty in its recent election victory, university administration and the Board of Trustees are keenly aware of the strength (or lack of it) represented by UFF's actual membership numbers. The union must, therefore, increase its membership in order to have a firm and effective voice with administration at the bargaining table and to negotiate a strong contract for all faculty at UWF.

Membership Form

Print it out, complete it, and submit it to the UFF-UWF Secretary, Kymberly Goodson, in John C. Pace Library. Please note that the series of boxes on the form beginning with "Subject Code" are optional.

Membership in the University of West Florida Chapter of the United Faculty of Florida is open to all in-unit employees of UWF. Generally, this means all regular and library faculty, but individuals should consult the Collective Bargaining Agreement for details.

Why join UFF-UWF?

The bargaining of a strong contract, and the benefits to faculty that result therein, is intrinsically tied to membership percentage. Review the table below for a list of average faculty salaries, with their corresponding percentages of union membership, in comparable universities with collective bargaining. (You may also download this table in Excel format.)

UFF-UWF's level of membership directly affects the degree to which your bargaining team can negotiate a strong contract on your behalf!

Membership in UFF offers numerous benefits, including legal representation, professional liability insurance, insurance discounts, financial planning, and more.

Dues Payment

Membership in UFF costs 1% of an individual's salary. Regular payroll deduction is back as a payment option. New members, continuing members, and returning members wishing to pay their dues in this convenient manner will need to fill out a new membership form.

Payment may also be made quarterly or semi-annually by check or credit card. Contact a UFF officer for more details.

What can YOU do?

In addition to joining UFF, we welcome you to become active in the organization and to participate in encouraging others to join. You may contact a UFF-UWF officer to learn other ways in which you can become active in YOUR organization. In addition, you can talk to your colleagues about why they should join, attend related meetings and events, and invite others to do so as well. Members may also proactively contact or informally communicate with members of the Board of Trustees regarding the union, professional concerns, and the bargaining of the new contract. BOT members must be well-informed about the faculty perspective and must have accurate, balanced information concerning faculty rights, issues, and employment at the university. Below are some documents which can assist you in understand the issues facing UWF, in approaching others, and in helping your colleagues understand the current state of affairs.
